Ranthambore Chambal Crocodile Safari

Ranthambore is not just about tigers. It has other forms of wildlife as well. If you are interested in gharials and crocodiles, then Ranthambore is the place to be. The National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary Paighat in Ranthambore offers crocodile safaris. It is located along the Chambal river and is about 45 kilometres away from Ranthambore National Park. If you go by car, it will take you an hour to reach the Gharial Sanctuary.

Crocodiles and Gharials are the main attraction of this safari. However, there are other aquatic organisms as well. You can see many species of birds and eight turtle species. You can also see wolves, jackals, hyenas, porcupines, marsh crocodiles, jungle cats, blue bull, wild boar and black-naped hare.

The sanctuary is the best place for birdwatchers. You can see birds like Lapwing, Indian Skimmer and Greater Thick Knee. The sanctuary claims to have more than 316 species of resident and migratory birds Other birds which you can see include the Common crane, Sarus crane, Common Teal, Red-crested pochard, Brahminy shelduck, Northern pintail and Black-bellied Tern.

Fishing is restricted in the sanctuary as it affects aquatic life. The Gharial is an endangered species and this is a way of conserving them.

 

The sanctuary comprises approximately 400 kilometres of the Chambal river. The river starts from the Kota Barrage, then flows through the southern and northern parts of Rajasthan and then enters Sawai Madhopur. The sanctuary includes areas from both Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The total area of the sanctuary is 285 square kilometres only in Rajasthan.

 

The best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to March

 

How to book a safari

We make the process very easy for you. All you need to do is contact us. There are booking choices available and you can choose the one most suitable for you.

Safari timings:

Ten safaris are conducted in a day so you can choose any one of them according to your preference. The first safari starts at 8 am and the last one is at 5 pm.

 

What rules do you need to follow?

The safari follows certain rules and they are as follows:

 

  • You have to wear a safety jacket during the safari

  • You cannot go very close to the animals

  • You cannot throw any waste inside the river as it harms the aquatic life

 

Transport:

Motor boats are available for safari

Private open jeeps or private air-conditioned cars are also available for the safari

 

Duration of the safari:

Each safari is of about one hour

 

Things which are included:

  • River safari is included with all bookings

  • Water bottles are given to all visitors

  • Kids below five years of age can visit the sanctuary for free

  • Hotel Pickups

 

Things which are not included:

  • Accommodation and meals

  • It is not accessible to wheelchair bound tourists

  • Temperature checks for all sanctuary staff

  • Safari areas are regularly sanitized

Things to carry while going on the safari:

Binoculars

If you are a birdwatcher, please make sure to carry a good pair of binoculars.

Scarf or hat

Since the boats do not have shade, you need to carry hats or scarves to protect yourself from the sun.

Snacks

There are no snack shops in the vicinity, so please make sure to carry sone to munch on the boat or jeep

Camera

This goes without saying. If you want to snap great wildlife pictures, please carry a great camera. There are camera fees applicable.

Warm clothes

If you are visiting the sanctuary during winter, then please carry some warm clothes. It can get really cold in the mornings.

Cancellations:

You can cancel 24 hours before for a full refund. In order to receive a complete refund, the timeline must be adhered to. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, then you wont get any refund.

Any changes in the details of booking made less than 24 hours before the safari won’t be accepted.

All cut-off times are based on the local timings of the safari.
